February 25, 2026 : The Supreme Court on Tuesday clarified that a Class 10 admit card, along with the corresponding pass certificate, may be produced as supplementary documentation for identity verification during the ongoing Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls in West Bengal.
A Bench comprising Chief Justice of India Surya Kant and Justices Joymalya Bagchi and Vipul M. Pancholi issued the clarification after senior advocate D.S. Naidu mentioned the matter before the court.
During the brief hearing, the senior counsel sought clarity on whether a Class 10 admit card could be treated as a standalone identity document for the purpose of verification.
The Bench made it clear that the admit card by itself would not suffice. It can be relied upon only as supporting material, and must be accompanied by the pass certificate.
The clarification comes in the backdrop of the ongoing revision exercise in West Bengal, where questions had arisen regarding the range of documents that could be accepted for identity verification.
