March 03, 2026 : A Delhi court has granted bail to nine members of the Indian Youth Congress who were arrested for staging a protest during the India AI Impact Summit in the capital.
The protest unfolded inside the summit venue, where the group raised slogans critical of the Union government. According to Delhi Police, the demonstration disrupted the high-profile event. Cases were registered against the protesters on charges related to unlawful assembly and creating disturbance.
While hearing the bail pleas, the court observed that the protest prima facie reflected political dissent. It noted that dissent is an accepted feature of a democratic system and said custody should not be used as a punitive tool unless there are compelling grounds.
The judge held that the investigation can proceed without keeping the accused behind bars. The court imposed standard bail conditions, including furnishing surety bonds and cooperating with the investigation.
Among those granted relief is Indian Youth Congress national president Uday Bhanu Chib. The court clarified that it has not expressed any opinion on the merits of the allegations and that the trial will continue in accordance with law.
The investigation remains ongoing.
