BJP Leads in Bengal; Vijay’s TVK Surges in Tamil Nadu, Congress Ahead in Kerala

May 4, 2026 : Early trends in the ongoing vote counting across four states and the Union Territory of Puducherry have largely held steady through successive rounds, pointing to significant shifts in key regions.

In West Bengal, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has taken a strong and somewhat unexpected lead, ahead in 192 of the 293 constituencies being counted. The ruling All India Trinamool Congress trails with leads in 94 seats.Early trends in the ongoing vote counting across four states and the Union Territory of Puducherry have largely held steady through successive rounds, pointing to significant shifts in key regions.

In West Bengal, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has taken a strong and somewhat unexpected lead, ahead in 192 of the 293 constituencies being counted. The ruling All India Trinamool Congress trails with leads in 94 seats.

Tamil Nadu is witnessing a dramatic debut by Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), led by actor-turned-politician C. Joseph Vijay. The party is leading in 112 of the 234 seats. The All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) is in second place with 58 leads, while the ruling Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) has slipped to third with 47. Smaller parties including PMK and Congress are trailing behind.

In Assam, the BJP is on course to retain power, having already won 6 seats and leading in 73 more out of 126 constituencies. Its ally Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) has secured 1 seat and is ahead in 8. The Congress is leading in 24 seats, while the Bodoland People’s Front holds leads in 10.

In Kerala, the Congress-led United Democratic Front (UDF) is comfortably ahead, with Congress winning 6 seats and leading in 55 more. The ruling Communist Party of India (Marxist) (CPM) has won 4 seats and is leading in 23, while its ally Communist Party of India (CPI) is ahead in 9. Other UDF allies, including RSP and Kerala Congress, have also secured leads, while BJP is ahead in 2 seats.

In Puducherry, results for 13 seats have been declared so far. The ruling All India N.R. Congress (AINRC) has won 8 seats and is leading in 1. Congress has won 1 and leads in 6, while DMK and BJP have also registered early wins and leads. AIADMK and Independent candidates have secured a few seats as well.
