March 16, 2026 : The Safety Awareness Week and Safety Exhibition–2026, organized by the Coke Oven and Coal Chemical Department (CO-CCD) of SAIL-Bhilai Steel Plant, concluded on March 16 with a valedictory ceremony at the departmental premises. Held from March 10 to 16, the initiative aimed to strengthen safety awareness and promote standardized safe working practices among employees.
The closing ceremony was presided over by Chief General Manager (CO-CCD) Mr. Tularam Behera and Chief General Manager (Safety and Fire Services) Mr. Debdatta Satpathy. The event was attended by senior officials, representatives of officers’ associations and unions, along with a large number of regular and contractual employees.
Addressing the gathering, both senior officials stressed the importance of proactive safety measures and improving the quality of ‘Near Miss’ reporting. They highlighted the need for adopting a comprehensive 360-degree safety approach and focusing on leading safety indicators to enhance overall safety performance. Employees were encouraged to remain vigilant and committed to maintaining an accident-free workplace.
The week-long program included various engagement activities such as painting and rangoli competitions, Tool Box Talks (TBT), safety skits, and full body harness demonstrations. Firefighting demonstrations, safety quizzes, ‘Spot the Hazard’ sessions, and debates were also organized to reinforce practical safety learning.
A major highlight was the Safety Exhibition, featuring stalls on material handling, working at height, confined space safety, personal protective equipment (PPE), and electrical safety. The exhibition attracted over 500 visitors from different departments, who appreciated the practical insights shared.
The event concluded with the felicitation of winners, judges, and stall representatives by the dignitaries. The program was successfully coordinated by Mr. B.C. Mandal and Mr. Ashutosh Pradhan.
