  • CCPA Cracks Down on E-Commerce Violations; ₹1,440 Crore Refunded to Consumers

    March 18, 2026 : The Central Consumer Protection Authority (CCPA) has initiated enforcement action against multiple entities for violations of consumer rights and unfair trade practices in the e-commerce sector. Responding to supplementary questions in the Lok Sabha, Union Consumer Affairs Minister Pralhad Joshi stated that since 2020, the Legal Metrology Department has issued 997 notices to e-commerce platforms for engaging in unfair practices.

    He further noted that, following CCPA’s intervention, several e-commerce companies have strengthened their grievance redressal systems. The Minister highlighted that refunds amounting to ₹1,440 crore have been secured for affected consumers so far, marking a significant achievement of the Department of Consumer Affairs in recent years.
