April 9, 2026 : Karnavati University’s Unitedworld School of Law (UWSL), through its Centre for Research on Intellectual Property Rights (CRIPR), is set to organise a one-day online workshop titled “The Synergy of Science & Intellectual Property Laws” on April 24, 2026. The event is being conducted in collaboration with the Gujarat Council on Science and Technology (GUJCOST).
The workshop aims to explore how intellectual property (IP) laws intersect with scientific research, innovation, and creative work. Designed for both academia and industry participants, the programme will focus on practical and emerging challenges in IP law, particularly in areas like artificial intelligence, biotechnology, and technological innovation.
According to the organisers, the initiative seeks to build a strong understanding of how legal frameworks shape research commercialisation and innovation ecosystems. The sessions will be divided into two major tracks: a creative track dealing with copyright and AI-related concerns, and a technological track focusing on patents and industrial innovation.
The event will also feature abstract presentations of ongoing research. Scholars and researchers have been invited to submit abstracts on themes such as AI’s impact on IP philosophy, digital technologies including NFTs, biotechnology and human rights, and environmental sustainability in IP law. Selected participants will present their work during technical sessions and may later contribute full-length chapters to an edited ISBN volume, subject to peer review.
The workshop is scheduled from 10:00 AM to 2:45 PM and will include expert-led sessions, research presentations, and discussions on ethics and enforcement in IP law. The last date for abstract submission is April 15, 2026, while selected authors will be notified shortly thereafter.
Participation in the workshop is free, although prior registration is mandatory. All attendees and presenters will receive e-certificates.
With increasing focus on innovation-driven economies, the workshop is expected to provide a valuable platform for dialogue between researchers, legal scholars, and policymakers on the evolving role of intellectual property in science and technology.
