NLUO & AZB Launch Credit Course on Commercial Arbitration Lifecycle

National Law University Odisha, in collaboration with AZB & Partners, has introduced a single-credit course titled “The Lifecycle of Arbitration: Strategy, Procedure and Enforcement in Commercial Disputes.”

The course is structured to give participants a practical understanding of arbitration in commercial disputes under the Arbitration and Conciliation Act, 1996. It focuses on how arbitration functions as a preferred dispute resolution mechanism in corporate settings.

Participants will engage with key aspects such as drafting enforceable arbitration agreements, evaluating pre-dispute strategies, and understanding procedural steps involved in initiating arbitration. The course also addresses handling evidence, conducting hearings, and navigating post-award challenges under Sections 34 and 37 of the Act.

In addition, it covers enforcement of arbitral awards and asset recovery, offering insight into real-world arbitration practice.

Resource Persons:

  • Prerna Ponappa, Counsel, AZB & Partners – experienced in domestic and international arbitration, with appearances before the Supreme Court, High Courts, and tribunals.
  • Dharma Tej Koneru, Senior Associate – specialises in commercial litigation and arbitration across multiple forums.
  • Vinudeep R, Associate – focuses on arbitration, litigation, and dispute resolution.
  • Abhay Shetty, Associate – works on arbitration and enforcement, including foreign awards; holds an LL.M. in International Dispute Resolution from King’s College London.

Eligibility:

  • 2nd–5th year students of 5-year LL.B. programmes
  • 2nd–3rd year students of 3-year LL.B. programmes
  • Postgraduate law students
