TVK Government in Tamil Nadu to Expand Cabinet Today, VCK and IUML to Get Ministerial Berths

May 22, 2026 : The Joseph Vijay-led government in Tamil Nadu is set to expand its cabinet today with the induction of two more ministers representing key alliance partners. The swearing-in ceremony will take place at Lok Bhavan at 10 a.m., where Governor Vishwanath Arlekar will administer the Oath of Office and Secrecy.

The new entrants to the cabinet are Vanniarasu of the Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK), elected from the Tindivanam Assembly constituency, and A. M. Shahjahan of the Indian Union Muslim League (IUML), who represents the Papanasam constituency.

With the latest expansion, the Tamil Nadu cabinet will have a total of 35 members, including Chief Minister Joseph Vijay.

The VCK, led by MP Thol. Thirumavalavan, has been a long-standing ally of the ruling coalition. The induction of Vanniarasu marks the first time the party has secured a ministerial berth in the state cabinet. Meanwhile, the IUML nominated Shahjahan for the cabinet after receiving approval from the party’s Kerala leadership on Thursday.

Both the VCK and IUML, with two MLAs each, had extended support to the formation of the TVK government headed by Joseph Vijay following the Assembly elections.
