May 22, 2026 : In a major counter-espionage operation, the Punjab Police has arrested a resident of Pathankot for allegedly spying for Pakistan-based handlers by installing an internet-connected CCTV camera along the Pathankot-Jammu National Highway-44 to monitor military movement.
According to Pathankot Senior Superintendent of Police Daljinder Singh Dhillon, the accused, identified as Baljit Singh, had allegedly installed the CCTV camera near a bridge on NH-44 to keep watch on the movement of Army and paramilitary forces in the sensitive border region. Preliminary investigations revealed that the live feed from the camera was allegedly being shared directly with handlers linked to Pakistan’s Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI).
Police officials said the investigation has also uncovered the involvement of three more accomplices. One suspect allegedly provided local logistical support to the accused, while two others are reportedly based abroad and are believed to be in contact with foreign intelligence agencies.
The latest arrest comes amid heightened concerns over espionage activities in Punjab’s border districts. Last month, Punjab Police had similarly busted two ISI-backed espionage modules that allegedly used advanced solar-powered CCTV cameras to transmit live footage of sensitive military locations to Pakistan-based operatives.
Security agencies are now expanding the investigation to trace the wider network and determine whether more surveillance devices were installed in strategically important areas.
