May 22, 2026 : In a major breakthrough, the Punjab Police have uncovered an international network allegedly involved in circulating threatening bomb hoax emails to schools and other sensitive locations across India. The investigation has revealed suspected links to individuals operating from Bangladesh and Pakistan.
Amritsar Police Commissioner Gurpreet Singh Bhullar said the main accused, Sourav Biswas alias Michael, was arrested from West Bengal after allegedly crossing over from Bangladesh. According to the police, the case has international ramifications, and assistance from Interpol has also been sought as part of the ongoing probe.
Investigations conducted by the Anti Cyber Crime team revealed that the accused was allegedly engaged in the purchase and sale of email accounts through various Facebook groups. Police said nearly 300 Gmail accounts were procured, out of which 219 accounts were allegedly sold to a Bangladesh-based individual. These accounts were later supplied to unidentified Pakistan-based operatives, who allegedly used them to send bomb threat emails and carry out other illegal cyber activities.
During the investigation, police recovered several CPUs, computer hard disks, mobile phones, details of more than 300 Gmail IDs along with passwords, and 15 Hotmail accounts. Authorities are continuing their investigation to identify the wider network and trace the individuals involved in the cyber operations.
