June 1, 2026 : Public Sector Undertaking (PSU) Oil Marketing Companies have maintained uninterrupted supplies of Petrol, Diesel, and Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) across Chhattisgarh despite a sharp increase in fuel demand during May 2026. State-run fuel retailers reported significant growth in diesel sales across multiple districts, reflecting increased economic activity and a shift toward authorised retail procurement channels.
Official figures show that High-Speed Diesel (HSD) sales through PSU retail outlets witnessed substantial growth between May 1 and May 31. Eight districts recorded growth exceeding 20 per cent, with Bastar leading at 32 per cent, followed by Balod (28 per cent), Koria (25.4 per cent), Mohla-Manpur-Ambagarh Chowki (24.9 per cent), Kondagaon (22.1 per cent), Sakti (21.1 per cent), Rajnandgaon (21 per cent), and Surajpur (20.2 per cent).
Among major urban centres, Raipur registered a 19.8 per cent increase in diesel sales, while Durg and Balodabazar recorded growth of 17.5 per cent and 16.4 per cent respectively. Several other districts, including Kanker, Mahasamund, Sarangarh-Bilaigarh, and Gaurela-Pendra-Marwahi, also posted double-digit growth during the month.
Officials attributed the surge in sales largely to the transition from bulk fuel procurement to authorised retail outlets. The Government of India has advised States and Union Territories to establish special enforcement squads to curb black marketing, unauthorised stocking, diversion of petroleum products, and other violations under the Essential Commodities Act and related control orders. Industry bodies have also been encouraged to advise their members to procure diesel exclusively through authorised channels.
In view of the prevailing geopolitical situation, PSU Oil Marketing Companies, including Indian Oil Corporation Limited, Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited, and Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited, have strengthened operational coordination to ensure uninterrupted availability of Motor Spirit (Petrol), High-Speed Diesel, and LPG across the country.
The companies stated that supply chains, transport networks, terminal operations, and select retail outlets are operating round the clock to facilitate seamless movement and timely replenishment of fuel stocks. Coordination with state administrations is being maintained through an extensive network of depots, terminals, pipelines, LPG bottling plants, and retail outlets.
Reassuring consumers, the oil companies stated that adequate stocks of Petrol, Diesel, and LPG are available nationwide and that all necessary measures are in place to ensure uninterrupted supplies. Citizens have been urged to avoid panic buying and rely only on official communications from authorised government agencies and Oil Marketing Companies regarding fuel availability and supply conditions.
