Five Newly Appointed Supreme Court Judges to Take Oath Today

June 2, 2026 : Five newly appointed judges of the Supreme Court of India will be sworn in today, with Chief Justice of India Surya Kant administering the oath of office at a ceremony in New Delhi.

The appointments were made by President Droupadi Murmu following consultation with the Chief Justice of India, further strengthening the apex court’s judicial strength.

According to a notification issued by the Ministry of Law and Justice, the newly elevated judges include Justice Sheel Nagu, Chief Justice of the Punjab and Haryana High Court; Justice Shree Chandrashekhar, Chief Justice of the Bombay High Court; Justice Sanjeev Sachdeva, Chief Justice of the Madhya Pradesh High Court; and Justice Arun Palli, Chief Justice of the High Court of Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh.

In addition, senior advocate Venkita Subramani Mohana has been appointed as a judge of the Supreme Court, marking a rare direct elevation from the Bar to the country’s highest court.

The swearing-in ceremony will formally induct the five judges into the Supreme Court, enhancing its capacity to deal with an increasing judicial workload and significant constitutional matters.
