June 2, 2026 : The Supreme Court Collegium has approved the appointment of three judicial officers as judges of the Himachal Pradesh High Court, marking a significant step toward strengthening the state’s higher judiciary. The decision was taken during the Collegium meeting held on June 2, 2026.
According to an official statement issued by the Supreme Court, the Collegium has cleared the names of Shri Chirag Bhanu Singh, Shri Bhupesh Sharma, and Shri Yogesh Jaswal for elevation to the Himachal Pradesh High Court Bench. The recommendation is part of a broader exercise undertaken by the Collegium to fill vacancies and enhance judicial capacity in High Courts across the country.
The Collegium’s recommendation will now be forwarded to the Central Government for further processing. The appointments will take effect after the President of India signs the warrants of appointment and the Department of Justice issues the formal notification.
The elevation of the three judicial officers is expected to strengthen the functioning of the Himachal Pradesh High Court, which has been operating below its sanctioned judicial strength. The move forms part of ongoing efforts to address vacancies in the higher judiciary and ensure the timely disposal of cases.
