The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has successfully secured the extradition of Red Notice subject Amritpal Singh, alias Gurpal Singh, from Moldova to India. The wanted fugitive was brought back to India through coordinated efforts by the CBI, Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) and Punjab Police.
A four-member team of the Punjab Police travelled to Moldova to bring the fugitive back to India. According to the CBI, Singh was wanted in connection with several serious criminal cases registered in Punjab, including allegations relating to double murder involving firearms.
The cases against him also include offences under the Arms Act and the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. He is additionally accused of using forged documents and violating provisions of the Passport Act.
The CBI said that the extradition forms part of its continued efforts to bring wanted criminals hiding abroad back to India. The agency stated that 175 wanted criminals have been brought back to the country in the last few years.
The CBI functions as India’s National Central Bureau for INTERPOL and coordinates with law enforcement agencies across the country through BHARATPOL. The platform facilitates assistance and cooperation through INTERPOL channels, helping Indian agencies trace and secure the return of fugitives wanted in criminal cases.
