Caller Name Display Service to Become Mandatory from November 1, 2026

Government mandates caller name display for telecom users - Law Notify

The Department of Telecommunications (DoT) has directed all telecom service providers to introduce the Calling Name Presentation (CNAP) service across all service areas from November 1, 2026. The service will display the caller’s name, as recorded in the telecom operator’s subscriber database, along with the caller’s phone number on the recipient’s device.

The service will be available to all telecom users without requiring a separate request. For international calls from unsaved numbers, the display will show “International Call”.

According to the DoT, telecom service providers have already conducted trials of CNAP on 4G and higher-generation wireless terrestrial networks. The implementation of the service on 2G and 3G networks, as well as public switched telephone networks (PSTN), will be considered separately.

The initiative aims to improve caller identification and enhance transparency in telecom services.
