Centre Releases Draft Rules Under VB-G RAM G Act, Invites Public Suggestions Till June 21

May 25, 2026 : The Union Ministry of Rural Development has released the draft Rules under the Viksit Bharat-Gramin Rozgar Assurance Mission Guarantee (VB-G RAM G) Act, 2025, for wider public consultation. The Ministry has invited objections and suggestions from individuals, stakeholders, organisations, and institutions, which can be submitted till June 21.

The newly enacted VB-G RAM G Act replaces the two-decade-old Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA), 2005, and seeks to strengthen rural employment security across the country. One of the key changes introduced under the new law is the enhancement of the statutory employment guarantee from 100 days to 125 days in a financial year.

According to the Ministry, the draft Rules have been framed under Section 33 and other relevant provisions of the Act. Several sets of Rules have been placed in the public domain for consultation, including Transitional Provisions Rules, National Level Steering Committee Rules, Central Gramin Rozgar Guarantee Council Rules, Administrative Expenses Rules, and Grievance Redressal Rules.

The government said the new legislation places strong emphasis on timely, transparent, and accountable payment of wages to workers. It also retains the provision for payment of unemployment allowance in cases where employment is not provided within the stipulated period.

The VB-G RAM G Act, 2025, was officially notified on May 11 and will come into force across all States and Union Territories from July 1 this year.
