The Delhi High Court on Wednesday declined to grant an urgent hearing to a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) seeking hostel facilities in all colleges affiliated with Delhi University.
The petition was mentioned before a bench headed by Chief Justice Devendra Kumar Upadhyaya in the wake of the PG building collapse at Satya Niketan near Delhi University’s South Campus, which claimed the lives of seven people.
During the hearing, the court questioned whether a direction requiring hostel facilities across all Delhi University colleges could be issued “in the interim”. The bench observed that such a direction could not be passed at the interim stage, particularly as the court had already heard another PIL concerning the issue on Tuesday.
The court subsequently directed that the petition be filed for auto-listing tomorrow, allowing it to come up through the regular listing process.
