DLSA Bemetara Conducts Legal Awareness Drive on World Day Against Child Labour

June 12, 2026 : Marking the World Day Against Child Labour, the District Legal Services Authority (DLSA), Bemetara, organized a special legal awareness campaign across various industrial establishments and public places in the district to educate citizens and workers about child labour eradication and the protection of children’s rights.

The programme was conducted under the “State Plan of Action Calendar-2026” of the National Legal Services Authority (NALSA) and the Chhattisgarh State Legal Services Authority. The campaign was carried out under the guidance of Principal District and Sessions Judge and Chairperson of DLSA Bemetara, Mrs. Saroj Nand Das, and under the direction of Secretary, DLSA Bemetara, Mrs. Swarnalata Om Yadav.

As part of the initiative, legal awareness camps were organized at several locations, including industrial units, workshops, rice mills, brick kilns, garages, and bus stands across the district. During these camps, legal volunteers informed workers and members of the public that employing children below the age of 14 years is a punishable offence under law and that every child has the fundamental right to education.

Officials highlighted that the observance of the World Day Against Child Labour aims to free children from exploitative labour practices, ensure their access to education, and strengthen public awareness about child rights. Citizens were urged to actively discourage child labour and immediately report any instances of child employment to the concerned authorities.

The awareness sessions also provided information on various NALSA welfare schemes, the toll-free legal aid helpline 15100, the Prohibition of Child Marriage Act, 2006, the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, 2012, the Hit and Run Compensation Scheme, 2022, the Right of Children to Free and Compulsory Education Act, 2009, and the Child Helpline 1098.

Through the campaign, DLSA Bemetara sought to strengthen community participation in eliminating child labour and promoting the welfare, education, and legal protection of children across the district.
