I4C Warns Banks, NBFCs and Fintechs of AI-Driven Cyberattacks, Urges Swift CERT-In Compliance

Cyber Crime India

The Indian Cyber Crime Coordination Centre (I4C), operating under the Union Ministry of Home Affairs, has issued an advisory cautioning banks, non-banking financial companies (NBFCs), and fintech firms about a rising trend of financially motivated cyberattacks powered by artificial intelligence agents.

The advisory directs financial institutions to urgently implement the measures outlined in advisories issued by the Indian Computer Emergency Response Team (CERT-In). It was issued after I4C’s National Cybercrime Threat Analysis Unit, along with CERT-In under the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology, observed a growing pattern of cyber frauds involving attacks on banks, NBFCs, and fintech companies.

Financial institutions have also been instructed to align their security controls with CERT-In’s May 2026 blueprint — designed to reduce exposure and defend against AI-assisted vulnerability exploitation in digital infrastructure — as well as with the cybersecurity frameworks prescribed by their respective sectoral regulators.

Additionally, financial institutions have been urged to report such incidents to CERT-In within six hours of detection. Banks and NBFCs are also required to report incidents to the Reserve Bank of India through its DAKSH portal within the same timeframe.
