India, EU deepen cooperation on green transport and aviation innovation

Law Notify : India and the European Union have agreed to advance cooperation across the transport ecosystem, with a strong focus on sustainability and green aviation. The understanding emerged from a meeting between Civil Aviation Minister K Rammohan Naidu and EU Transport Commissioner Apostolos Tzitzikostas on the sidelines of the World Economic Forum in Davos.

According to the minister, discussions centred on innovation-driven solutions such as Sustainable Aviation Fuel, environmentally responsible transport systems, and the broader push for green aviation. Both sides underlined the need to align policy and technology efforts to reduce the carbon footprint of air transport.

The talks also covered enhanced institutional cooperation, with agreement to strengthen engagement between the European Union Aviation Safety Agency and India’s Directorate General of Civil Aviation. Key areas identified for collaboration include regulatory coordination, joint certification processes, cyber security, and drone regulations.

Naidu said the partnership would be taken forward through new initiatives such as joint working groups and technology transfer programmes. Both sides also agreed to expand EU–India engagement and increase participation in global green aviation initiatives, signalling a shared commitment to sustainable growth in the transport sector.
