Kerala High Court Grants Police Protection to Viral Kumbh Star Monalisa Bhosle Amid Death Threats Over Marriage

June 20, 2026 : The Kerala High Court has directed the police to provide protection to social media sensation and actress Monalisa Bhosle after she alleged receiving serious threats to her life following her marriage to actor Mohammed Farman Khan.

A single-judge Bench of Justice Bechu Kurian Thomas passed the interim order on Friday after considering submissions made by the parties. Observing that protection was necessary to safeguard the petitioner’s life and personal liberty, the Court directed the Station House Officer of the Central Police Station, Ernakulam, to provide adequate police protection to Monalisa until further orders. The matter is scheduled for further hearing on July 10.

Monalisa rose to national prominence during the 2025 Maha Kumbh Mela after videos of her selling prayer beads went viral on social media. According to the writ petition, she later entered the film industry and married Mohammed Farman Khan in Kerala on March 11, 2026. The marriage was reportedly registered under the Kerala Registration of Marriages (Common) Rules, 2008.

In her petition, Monalisa alleged that after news of the marriage became public, several social media accounts launched a coordinated hate campaign against the couple. She claimed that photographs of the couple were publicly burnt during protests and videos of such incidents were widely circulated online.

The petitioner further stated that she had received death threats from unidentified individuals and that she and her husband were being continuously followed by unknown persons. One of the threatening messages allegedly warned that she would be shot for marrying a person described as a Pakistani.

Despite filing complaints before the police and the City Police Commissioner, Monalisa contended that no effective action had been taken. She argued that the continued threats had created a genuine fear for her safety and were adversely affecting her acting career.

The police protection petition is one among several legal proceedings arising from the couple’s marriage. Following allegations by Monalisa’s father that she was only 16 years old at the time of marriage, a criminal case was registered in Madhya Pradesh.

Apprehending arrest in connection with that case, Monalisa and Farman approached the Kerala High Court seeking anticipatory bail. The High Court subsequently granted Farman interim protection from arrest for one month, enabling him to seek appropriate legal remedies before the competent court in Madhya Pradesh.

Meanwhile, a private complaint challenging the validity of the marriage remains pending before a POCSO Court in Thiruvananthapuram. The couple has also moved the Madhya Pradesh High Court alleging manipulation and tampering of records relating to Monalisa’s age.
