Ligiyadih Residents Demand Rehabilitation Before Development | LawNotify

Bilaspur, Chhattisgarh : Residents of Ligiyadih in Bilaspur have urged the Chhattisgarh government and the district administration to ensure that development activities are carried out strictly in accordance with existing laws and welfare policies, particularly in cases involving poor and landless families.

In a written representation submitted to the authorities, locals stated that several houses belonging to economically weaker families were demolished during recent development work. They have called on the administration to provide protection, rehabilitation, and housing assistance to all affected families as mandated under government schemes and regulations.

Mr. Sakhan Darve, former Block President of the Congress Party in Bilaspur, said that government policies are intended to safeguard vulnerable sections of society. He maintained that development should proceed only after eligible families are granted lawful rehabilitation and allotted residential plots, as required under the rules.

Residents further pointed out that the land in Ligiyadih is classified as residential in the city’s master plan. Any development, they said, must align with this designation. They also referred to surveys conducted under various welfare schemes, including the Rajiv Gandhi Aashray Yojana, to identify landless families in the area.

According to official records cited in the representation, a list of 505 eligible families was prepared in 2019. However, many of these families are yet to receive residential plots. The residents have requested that the allotment process be completed without further delay and in strict compliance with government guidelines.

The representation highlights that most of the affected families depend on daily wage labour and are financially vulnerable. Proper rehabilitation and timely support, they argue, are critical not only for protecting livelihoods but also for ensuring social stability.

Among the key demands raised are rehabilitation and housing support before any further demolition, adherence to the city master plan and land-use rules, allotment of plots to eligible families under approved schemes, and strict compliance with legal procedures in all development activities.

Residents have clarified that they are not opposed to development. They expressed confidence that the state government and the Bilaspur district administration will act fairly, uphold the law, and extend due support to all eligible families while ensuring that development proceeds in a just and transparent manner.
