July 15, 2026: In preparation for the Special Lok Adalat scheduled to be held on July 18, 2026, a meeting was convened at the District Court premises in Mungeli under the guidance of the National Legal Services Authority (NALSA), New Delhi, and the Chhattisgarh State Legal Services Authority (SLSA), Bilaspur. The meeting focused on formulating an effective strategy for the speedy, simple, and amicable settlement of pending cheque bounce cases under the Negotiable Instruments Act.
The meeting was chaired by Principal District and Sessions Judge and Chairperson of the District Legal Services Authority, Smt. Girija Devi Meravi. Addressing judicial officers and members of the Bar, she emphasized the objectives of the Special Lok Adalat and urged their active cooperation to ensure its successful conduct. She also appealed to litigants involved in cheque bounce cases to participate in the Lok Adalat and resolve their disputes through mutual settlement, thereby availing themselves of a faster and more efficient justice delivery mechanism.
Smt. Meravi stated that cheque bounce cases are compoundable in nature and can be effectively resolved through mutual consent in Lok Adalats. She highlighted that the Lok Adalat system provides an accessible, cost-effective, and time-bound forum for dispute resolution while reducing the burden of pending litigation and conserving judicial time and resources.
The meeting was attended by First Additional District and Sessions Judge Shri Rakesh Kumar Som, Chief Judicial Magistrate Smt. Jaswinder Kaur Ajmani Malik, Secretary of the District Legal Services Authority Smt. Kanchan Lata Achala, Second Civil Judge (Senior Division) Shri Deepak Kumar Sharma, along with other judicial officers and advocates.
