Union Health and Family Welfare Minister Jagat Prakash Nadda stated on World Polio Day that India’s polio-free status, certified by the World Health Organisation in 2014, reflects the country’s sustained commitment to immunisation. In a social media post, Nadda stressed the need for continued vigilance against the risk of poliovirus importation and for strengthened efforts to protect every child. He noted that through the Universal Immunization Programme and supplementary vaccination campaigns, the government continues to ensure that children under five receive additional doses of the Oral Polio Vaccine, reaching even the most remote and underserved communities. The Health Minister emphasised that maintaining high immunisation coverage, strengthening disease surveillance and ensuring no child is left unprotected remain key priorities in the fight against polio.
