June 26, 2026 : On the occasion of the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking, the Navi Mumbai and Thane Police in Maharashtra destroyed narcotics worth nearly Rs. 96 crore under the nationwide ‘Nashamukt Bharat Abhiyan’ (Drug-Free India Campaign).
The Navi Mumbai Police Commissionerate destroyed seized narcotics worth Rs. 56.69 crore linked to 26 cases at the Mumbai Waste Management Company in Taloja after completing all legal formalities. As part of its ‘Drug-Free Navi Mumbai’ initiative, the commissionerate also organised awareness programmes highlighting the harmful effects of drug abuse for nearly 5,000 students from 25 schools and colleges.
Meanwhile, the Thane Police destroyed around 600 kilograms of narcotics worth Rs. 39.03 crore seized in 112 cases registered across the commissionerate over the past three years. The destruction was carried out under the supervision of the Central Contraband Destruction Committee and included ganja, hybrid cannabis, MD, charas and brown sugar.
The coordinated action reflects the continued efforts of law enforcement agencies to curb drug trafficking, eliminate seized contraband through due legal process, and strengthen public awareness against substance abuse across Maharashtra.
