NTPC Lara Distributes Artificial Limbs to Empower Persons with Disabilities in Nearby Villages

June 3, 2026 : In a significant initiative aimed at promoting inclusion and empowerment, the Lara Project of NTPC Limited has distributed customized artificial limbs to persons with disabilities living in villages surrounding the project area. The initiative, undertaken through Prerita Mahila Samiti, the social welfare wing of NTPC Lara, seeks to enhance mobility, encourage self-reliance, and improve the quality of life of beneficiaries.

During a programme held on June 2, 2026, Prerita Mahila Samiti Chairperson Rekha Thakur formally handed over the artificial limbs to the beneficiaries. The effort is expected to strengthen the confidence of persons with disabilities and help them lead more independent and dignified lives.

Before the distribution, a team of specialist doctors conducted door-to-door assessments and medical examinations of beneficiaries. Based on their individual needs, customized artificial limbs were designed and provided to ensure comfort, functionality, and effective support.

Addressing the gathering, Rekha Thakur reaffirmed the committee’s commitment to supporting underprivileged and vulnerable sections of society. She emphasized the vision of creating a society where every individual enjoys dignity, self-reliance, and equal opportunities. She also highlighted that the initiative reflects NTPC’s broader commitment to corporate social responsibility, extending beyond power generation to the social and economic development of communities around its project sites.

Beneficiaries expressed gratitude to NTPC Lara and Prerita Mahila Samiti for the assistance. They said the artificial limbs would help them carry out daily activities more efficiently, improve livelihood opportunities, and reduce dependence on crutches while enabling greater mobility and independence.

The initiative underscores NTPC Lara’s role as a responsible corporate citizen and contributes to advancing the vision of an inclusive, compassionate, and equitable society.

Among those present at the programme were Tripti Pawagi, Vice-Chairperson of Prerita Mahila Samiti; Mamta Sahu, General Secretary; Shabnam Ahmad, Senior Member; other office-bearers and members of the committee; and a large number of beneficiaries.
