Marhc 15, 2026 : The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has arrested Harpal Singh Ahuja in connection with a 24-year-old bank fraud case. According to the agency, Ahuja had been evading arrest for several years and was moving between Mumbai and Faridabad to avoid being traced.

The accused was finally apprehended from Mumbai on March 12. Following his arrest, he was brought to Ghaziabad and produced before the Special Judge of the CBI Court, which remanded him to judicial custody.

The CBI stated that the case was originally registered on April 27, 2001. After completing the investigation, the agency filed a chargesheet against Ahuja and other accused persons on March 19, 2003.

During the course of the trial, Ahuja, who is alleged to be the main conspirator in the bank fraud case, absconded in 2014. The CBI said that trial proceedings against the other accused persons have already been completed. However, the trial against Harpal Singh Ahuja remained pending due to his absence and required his presence before the court.

With his arrest after more than a decade of evasion, the agency is now expected to proceed with the pending trial against him before the CBI court in Ghaziabad.
