Omprakash Sharma Superintendent of Police in Baloda Bazar–Bhatapara SP Baloda Bazar

New SP Omprakash Sharma Takes Charge in Baloda Bazar–Bhatapara, Expectations Rise on Law and Order

April 27, 2026 : The appointment of Omprakash Sharma as the new Superintendent of Police in Baloda Bazar–Bhatapara district has raised public expectations regarding improved law and order and stricter control over illegal activities. The district has been viewed as sensitive since an incident on June 10, 2024, and the new leadership is being closely watched.

Sharma is not new to the region. He has previously served as Sub-Divisional Officer (Police) in Baloda Bazar and Bhatapara, giving him familiarity with local conditions. This prior experience is seen as an advantage, with many expecting more effective and targeted policing.

In recent months, concerns over theft have grown among residents. Incidents involving theft from homes, shops, and vehicles have been reported in both urban and rural areas. Some locals feel that action in minor theft cases has not been satisfactory, which could embolden offenders. Earlier, cases of theft of solar panels and pumps from farmers’ fields were registered, but there are also allegations that registration of FIRs in smaller cases has not been consistent.

There have also been discussions about the activities of roaming criminal groups in the district. Business bodies, including the Chamber of Commerce, have reportedly submitted representations seeking stronger security arrangements.

Complaints regarding betting activities have surfaced as well. According to sources, operations are being conducted through both traditional methods and digital platforms such as mobile applications, making monitoring and enforcement more challenging. While police receive information from time to time, some residents claim that such activities tend to resume even after action is taken.

There is also a growing call for ensuring a safe environment for media professionals so they can work without pressure. Discussions have emerged about certain individuals with prior criminal cases allegedly exerting influence in the district headquarters, prompting expectations that the administration will clarify the situation and take necessary action.

Concerns have additionally been raised about illegal liquor trade, usury, and other activities in certain areas. Observers emphasize the need for sustained enforcement in these matters. Experts suggest that alongside conventional policing methods, strengthening technical surveillance and intelligence networks will be crucial for effective crime control.

The primary challenge before the new Superintendent of Police will be to restore and maintain public confidence while ensuring a stronger and more responsive law enforcement system.
