Rajasthan High Court Directs Panchayat, Urban Body Polls by July 31; Rejects State’s Plea for Delay

May 22, 2026 : The Rajasthan High Court on Friday directed the state government and the State Election Commission to complete panchayat and urban local body elections by July 31, rejecting the government’s request to postpone the polls until December.

A division bench led by Acting Chief Justice S.P. Sharma also instructed the OBC Commission to submit its report by June 20 to ensure the timely conduct of elections.

The court had reserved its verdict on May 11 after concluding hearings in the matter. With the latest order, the High Court has cleared the way for the election process to move forward within the stipulated timeline.
