June 12, 2026 : A consumer awareness camp was organized by the District Consumer Commission at the Panchayat Bhavan in Bharseli village of Balodabazar development block on Thursday, following directions issued by the Chhattisgarh State Consumer Commission. The initiative aimed to educate rural consumers about their rights, responsibilities, and the provisions of the Consumer Protection Act, 2019.
Addressing the gathering, District Consumer Commission Chairperson Ranjana Datta, along with members Harjeet Singh Chawla and Sharda Soni, highlighted the key provisions of the Consumer Protection Act, 2019. They emphasized that consumers have a legal right to receive quality goods and services and should remain vigilant while purchasing products or availing services. Participants were advised to verify product quality, quantity, and pricing, and to exercise caution while dealing with insurance claims, medical reimbursements, financial institutions, banks, transportation services, and online shopping platforms.
The officials informed villagers that consumers can seek redressal through the Consumer Commission in cases involving fraud, adulteration, overcharging, unfair trade practices, or deficiency in services. Detailed information was also provided on the use of the E-Jagriti portal for filing consumer complaints online and the E-Hearing system, which enables consumers to participate in hearings remotely through digital platforms.
During the interactive session, residents raised queries related to consumer laws, e-filing procedures, and online hearings. Commission officials addressed these concerns and clarified the complaint redressal process. Advocate Animesh Trivedi, who participated as a resource person, appreciated the Commission’s outreach efforts and encouraged citizens to make effective use of consumer protection laws. He also explained the complaint mechanism in simple terms to help villagers better understand their legal remedies.
