CBI Arrests IAS Officer Ram Kumar Singh in Panchkula Municipal Corporation Funds Misappropriation Case

June 18, 2026 : The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has arrested senior IAS officer Ram Kumar Singh, who was serving as the Commissioner of the Panchkula Municipal Corporation at the time of the alleged offence, in connection with a case involving the misappropriation of public funds belonging to the civic body.

According to a press release issued by the CBI, the case relates to the alleged diversion of funds from the Panchkula Municipal Corporation’s bank account maintained at the IDFC First Bank branch in Sector 32, Chandigarh. The agency’s investigation has revealed serious irregularities in the opening and operation of the account.

The CBI stated that the municipal corporation’s bank account was opened in violation of the guidelines and financial procedures prescribed by the Haryana Government’s Finance Department. Investigators found that specific information was deliberately entered into the account opening documents in a manner that allegedly facilitated the concealment of fraudulent financial transactions that were carried out subsequently.

The agency further alleged that the account was used as part of a scheme to divert public money, causing significant financial loss to the Municipal Corporation. The investigation is focused on identifying the extent of the alleged fraud, the role of public officials and other individuals involved, and tracing the flow of misappropriated funds.

The arrest marks a significant development in the high-profile corruption case, with the CBI continuing its probe into the alleged misuse of public resources and possible violations of financial and administrative regulations.
