Supreme Court Settles Over 400 Cases on First Day of Three-Day Special Lok Adalat

The Supreme Court has settled more than 400 cases on the first day of a three-day Special Lok Adalat being organised under the “Samadhan Samaroh” initiative. The cases resolved include matrimonial and property disputes, motor-accident claims, land acquisition and compensation matters, tax disputes, as well as service and labour-related cases pending before the apex court.

More than 600 cases were listed before 16 Special Lok Adalat benches. Each bench comprised two Supreme Court judges and was assisted by senior advocates, advocates-on-record and other lawyers to facilitate settlements between the parties.

The Supreme Court said the initiative reflects its continued efforts to encourage mediation and other consensual methods of dispute resolution as an important component of the justice-delivery system. The Special Lok Adalat began yesterday and will continue till tomorrow, providing litigants an opportunity to resolve pending disputes through settlement rather than prolonged litigation.
