Telangana National Lok Adalat Settles Over 9.28 Lakh Cases, Awards ₹422 Crore Compensation to Beneficiaries

June 25, 2026 : The second National Lok Adalat held across Telangana on June 20, 2026, achieved a major milestone by settling 9,28,322 cases in a single day, reaffirming the growing success of the alternative dispute resolution mechanism. According to the Telangana State Legal Services Authority (TSLSA), the Lok Adalat resolved 3,80,292 pre-litigation cases and 5,48,030 pending court cases, while awarding compensation of ₹422 crore to beneficiaries.

The State-wide National Lok Adalat was organized in accordance with the directions of the National Legal Services Authority (NALSA) and covered all judicial districts, the High Court for the State of Telangana, and various forums dealing with consumer, labour and other categories of disputes. Proceedings were conducted under the guidance of Chief Justice Justice Aparesh Kumar Singh, Patron-in-Chief of TSLSA, Justice P. Sam Koshy, Executive Chairman of TSLSA, and Justice K. Lakshman, Chairman of the High Court Legal Services Committee.

To facilitate the large-scale settlement drive, 353 Lok Adalat Benches were constituted across Telangana, including 349 benches in judicial districts, two benches in the High Court and two benches at the Debt Recovery Tribunals in Hyderabad. Ahead of the event, Justice P. Sam Koshy held meetings with Principal District Judges-cum-Chairpersons and Secretaries of the District Legal Services Authorities. He also convened a virtual conference with senior police and prosecution officials, urging all stakeholders to prioritize the disposal of long-pending disputes.

As part of a special initiative, the TSLSA concentrated on resolving old civil and criminal matters through extensive Pre-Lok Adalat sittings involving judges, lawyers, government departments and litigants. Member Secretary Ch. Panchakshari appealed to the public to make greater use of Lok Adalats, emphasizing that amicable settlements help save judicial time, preserve relationships and bring lasting resolution to disputes.

Among the major settlements, the District Legal Services Authority at Nizamabad facilitated the resolution of a high-value motor accident compensation case, in which ₹1.10 crore was awarded to the family of a deceased victim after TATA AIG Insurance Company voluntarily agreed to settle the dispute through the Lok Adalat process.

Justice P. Sam Koshy also visited the District Legal Services Authority at Hyderabad’s Nampally Sessions Division, where he personally interacted with litigants and distributed Lok Adalat awards after ensuring that the settlements had been reached voluntarily and without any coercion.

In another significant development, a criminal case registered as Crime No. 39 of 2009 at Habeeb Nagar Police Station was finally resolved after remaining pending for nearly 16 years. The complainant and the accused agreed to a comprehensive compromise covering three interconnected disputes, bringing a long-standing legal battle to an amicable conclusion.

The National Lok Adalat also provided substantial relief in land acquisition matters. In Adilabad district, 18 land acquisition execution petitions were disposed of after the Government of Telangana deposited ₹65.33 lakh towards compensation. According to the TSLSA, the efforts of Justice P. Sam Koshy, along with the cooperation of Advocate General A. Sudarshan Reddy, resulted in the State Government sanctioning and depositing ₹17.61 crore for compensation in several land acquisition execution petitions across Telangana, benefiting affected landowners and reducing prolonged litigation.

At the High Court for the State of Telangana, two Lok Adalat Benches headed by Justice Renuka Yara and Justice Suddala Chalapathi Rao successfully settled 176 pending cases. In motor accident compensation matters alone, awards totaling ₹8.96 crore were granted, ensuring speedy financial assistance to the claimants.

The Telangana State Legal Services Authority stated that the overwhelming response from litigants, lawyers and stakeholders once again demonstrated that the Lok Adalat system continues to be an effective, affordable and people-friendly mechanism for delivering speedy justice while significantly reducing the burden of pending cases.
