The National Investigation Agency (NIA) on Saturday conducted searches at 10 locations across Jammu and Kashmir, including Kupwara, Kulgam, Bandipora, Baramulla and Sopore, as part of its investigation into a cross-border terror conspiracy involving Pakistan-based handlers of the proscribed terrorist organisation Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) and their alleged network of local Over Ground Workers (OGWs).
During the searches, the agency seized further incriminating material linked to the case. The material is being examined and corroborated with evidence gathered during the earlier stages of the investigation.
According to the NIA, the probe began after the arrest of an alleged Over Ground Worker on March 31 this year. A hand grenade and live ammunition were recovered from his possession. Subsequent investigation led to the arrest of Pakistani nationals allegedly connected with the conspiracy and helped investigators identify members of the suspected local support network and their roles.
The agency is also investigating the financial trail, communication channels, movements of the accused, and the source and supply chain of arms and explosives. The latest searches are part of the NIA’s continuing probe into the wider conspiracy and the support network allegedly facilitating cross-border terrorism in Jammu and Kashmir.
