Chhattisgarh High Court Stays Teacher Recruitment Exams Over Disability Reservation Issue

High Court of Chhattisgarh Bilaspur

Bilaspur : The Chhattisgarh High Court has stayed the teacher and assistant teacher recruitment examinations amid concerns over the implementation of reservation provisions for persons with disabilities, particularly candidates who are completely visually impaired. A Division Bench comprising Chief Justice Krushna Ram Mohapatra and Justice Santosh Sharma passed an interim order on October 9, 2026, and issued notice to the state government seeking its response.

The dispute concerns the alleged exclusion of completely visually impaired candidates from the recruitment process. The petitioners questioned whether the recruitment notifications adequately provided for the legally mandated reservation benefits for eligible persons with disabilities.

The application process for 2,292 assistant teacher posts had closed on August 21, 2026. Subsequently, the Social Welfare Department issued a revised notification on September 11, 2026, including the category of completely visually impaired candidates. However, the application deadline had already expired, raising concerns about whether eligible candidates would have a fair opportunity to apply.

The assistant teacher recruitment examination was scheduled for October 11, 2026, while the teacher recruitment examination was scheduled for October 25, 2026. Following the High Court’s order, the Chhattisgarh State Selection Board postponed the assistant teacher examination scheduled for October 11.

The state government is required to respond to the issues raised before the High Court. Further developments regarding the recruitment process and examination dates will depend on the court’s subsequent directions and official notifications. Candidates are advised to check official recruitment announcements for updates on revised examination schedules and any further opportunity to apply.
