Raipur : The Chhattisgarh government has brought into force a new legal framework governing wages in the state. The Labour Department of the Government of Chhattisgarh has published the final notification of the Wage Code (Chhattisgarh) Rules, 2026, under the Code on Wages, 2019, in the Gazette (Extraordinary) on 28 October 2026. The rules came into effect upon their publication in the gazette.
Through the new regulations, arrangements relating to minimum wages and payment of wages in the state have been organised under the new legal framework. Alongside this, the Minimum Wages (Chhattisgarh) Rules, 1958, and the Chhattisgarh Payment of Wages Rules, 1962, have been replaced.
It is notable that the Labour Department had published the draft of these rules in the gazette on 13 April 2026 and invited objections and suggestions from citizens, workers’ organisations, employers and other concerned stakeholders within 45 days. The final rules have been notified after considering the suggestions and objections received.
Under the new Wage Code, rules have been framed at the state level for the implementation of provisions relating to wage fixation, minimum wages, payment of wages, bonus and other statutory matters concerning workers. The new arrangement will provide an organised legal basis for the protection of workers’ wage-related rights in the state and for compliance with the statutory responsibilities of employers. The implementation of the new Wage Code is an important step towards protecting workers’ wage rights and building a transparent labour system.
