Raipur: The Chhattisgarh State Women Commission conducted a public hearing today at the Prarthana Meeting Hall of the Water Resources Department under the chairpersonship of Dr. Mamta Sahu. A total of 13 cases relating to women’s complaints and alleged harassment were heard during the proceeding.

Dr. Mamta Sahu heard the concerns and submissions of the parties present and issued directions for necessary action based on the circumstances of each case.

In one case, both the applicant and the respondent appeared before the Commission. The two parties agreed to resolve their differences and live together with mutual understanding. They also agreed not to engage in disputes in the future. Following the settlement between the parties, the Commission initiated proceedings to close the case.

In another case concerning maintenance, the applicant appeared while the respondent remained absent. It was informed that the matter was already pending before a court. Since the case involved an issue concerning a second wife, the applicant’s advocate was advised to discuss the matter and place it before the competent court. As the respondent was reportedly posted as a Class-II teacher in Mungeli district, directions were issued to send a necessary communication to the Education Department, Mungeli.

In another matter, the applicant was present but the respondent did not appear. The Commission contacted the respondent over the phone, who stated that there had been a misunderstanding regarding the date of the hearing. The matter was consequently listed for the next hearing.

In one case, the applicant’s daughter appeared before the Commission and submitted an application. She informed the Commission that the applicant herself would appear at the next hearing. The matter was accordingly kept for the next date.

In another case, the applicant remained absent while the respondents appeared. The Commission contacted the applicant by telephone. As she did not appear within the stipulated time, the Commission heard the submissions of the respondents.

The respondents placed before the Commission details regarding complaints allegedly made by the applicant at various places, along with other relevant facts. During the proceedings, an issue relating to religious conversion also emerged. The Commission directed the Civil Lines Police Station to provide the necessary information and take appropriate action in accordance with law.

The Commission further decided to call the applicant to appear at the next hearing, while the respondents would not be summoned at that stage.

The public hearing focused on resolving women-related grievances through appropriate intervention, settlement where possible, and coordination with the concerned departments and authorities in matters requiring further action. Officials assured participants that all complaints would be reviewed thoroughly and addressed within the stipulated timeframe.
