The initiative has been launched in coordination with the jail administration with the objective of providing simple and accessible legal assistance to the families and visitors of inmates.
Through these Legal Aid Help Desks, primary assistance will be extended to families of persons in custody, women caregivers, elderly dependents, children, and economically weaker families. Para Legal Volunteers deployed at the help desks will provide legal information, procedural guidance, and assistance regarding various legal aid services to the relatives of inmates.
Visitors will also be informed about various public welfare schemes and government benefit programmes being implemented by the National Legal Services Authority, Chhattisgarh State Legal Services Authority, and District Legal Services Authority.
The arrangement is expected to strengthen communication between inmates, their families, and jail authorities, while also reducing procedural delays and improving the effectiveness of the justice delivery system.
The District Legal Services Authority stated that the “Legal Aid Help Desk” will function daily, and Para Legal Volunteers will provide full assistance and support to citizens.
