10May 26, 2026 : The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has taken suo motu cognizance of media reports regarding a deadly explosion at a chemical manufacturing factory in Haryana’s Rewari district that left three workers dead and several others injured.
According to reports, the incident occurred on May 19, 2026, when repair work was being carried out at the factory’s chilling plant. The explosion reportedly triggered a major fire, injuring six workers. One of the injured workers later succumbed to injuries while undergoing treatment in a hospital on May 20. The skeletal remains of two other workers were subsequently recovered from the factory premises.
Taking note of the incident, the NHRC observed that if the reported facts are accurate, the matter raises serious concerns relating to the violation of the human rights of the victims. The Commission has therefore issued notices to the Chief Secretary of Haryana and the Superintendent of Police, Rewari, seeking a detailed report within two weeks.
The Commission has directed the authorities to provide information on the condition of the injured workers and details regarding compensation, if any, paid to the families of the deceased and those injured in the accident.
Media reports indicate that the factory manufactures chemical products, industrial inks, and aluminium foil for both domestic and international markets. Following multiple explosions at the facility, nearly 300 employees were evacuated from the premises as emergency response teams worked to contain the situation.
The NHRC’s intervention underscores growing concerns over workplace safety standards and industrial accident prevention measures in manufacturing units handling hazardous materials.
