Law Notify :Under the National Road Safety Month initiative, the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) is conducting large-scale road safety awareness and training programmes across national highways in Chhattisgarh. As part of this effort, a road safety campaign was organized on the Raipur–Bilaspur National Highway, where helmets were distributed to drivers and they were encouraged to strictly follow traffic rules.
Addressing the programme, Pradeep Kumar Lal, Regional Officer, NHAI, said that road safety goes beyond compliance with rules and is a shared responsibility of society. He stressed that simple precautions such as wearing helmets, using seat belts, and observing prescribed speed limits play a crucial role in saving lives.
Mukesh Kumar, Project Director of the Project Implementation Unit, Bilaspur, said that along with modern technical interventions, NHAI is consistently running public awareness campaigns to ensure safer and smoother travel on national highways and to reduce road accidents to the lowest possible level.
As part of the campaign, a live accident mock drill was conducted to demonstrate swift and effective emergency response during road accidents. The drill showcased ambulance response, removal of obstacles using cranes, and the administration of first aid to injured persons. The importance of helmets and seat belts for road safety was also highlighted.
In addition to the awareness drive, a blood donation camp was organized with the support of NHIT, in which over 50 people voluntarily donated blood. Officers, employees, and road users actively participated in the camp.
NHAI continues to organize road safety awareness programmes at toll plazas, national highways, and major junctions across the state, urging drivers and passengers to follow traffic rules, wear helmets, use seat belts, and maintain prescribed speed limits.
