Law Notify : The Election Commission of India has issued detailed directions to implement the Supreme Court of India’s order concerning the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in West Bengal.
The directions require the public display of voters’ names placed under the “Logical Discrepancies” and “Unmapped” categories. Affected voters must be given a clear opportunity to submit supporting documents and to be heard within a prescribed timeline.
The Commission has also instructed the West Bengal administration to strictly comply with the Supreme Court’s order this month in connection with the ongoing SIR 2026. State authorities and the police have been asked to ensure adequate manpower, the smooth conduct of hearings, and the maintenance of law and order, with strict action to be taken in cases of non-compliance.
Specific directions have been issued to the Director General of Police of West Bengal, the Police Commissioner of Kolkata, all District Collectors, other Police Commissioners, and all Superintendents of Police to maintain strict law and order during the SIR process.
Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar has assured the people of West Bengal that no one will be allowed to take the law into their own hands, and that strict action will be taken against any such attempts.
