March 18, 2026 : A Special NDPS Court in Raipur has sentenced two accused to 15 years of rigorous imprisonment each in a case involving illegal possession and sale of narcotic drugs.
The incident dates back to August 31, 2024, when Saraswati Nagar Police received information that a person in the Kukurbeda area was storing and selling a banned drug, Spasmo Proxyvon Plus, from his residence. Acting on the tip-off, police conducted a raid at the identified location and apprehended the accused, who identified himself as Manish Chandrakar. A total of 864 capsules weighing 668 grams were recovered from his possession.
During interrogation, Chandrakar disclosed that he had procured the contraband from Devendra Manjhi, a resident of Odisha. Based on this information, police arrested Manjhi as well.
During trial, the prosecution presented witnesses and documentary evidence, including seizure records. Relying on the evidence, the court found both accused guilty.
The court convicted Manish Chandrakar under Section 22(c) of the NDPS Act, and Devendra Manjhi under Section 29 read with Section 22(c). Both were sentenced to 15 years of rigorous imprisonment and fined ₹1.5 lakh each. In default of payment of fine, they will undergo an additional one year of imprisonment.
