CBI Takes Over Probe Into Murder of Bengal CM Suvendu Adhikari’s Aide Chandranath Rath

May 12, 2026 : The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has officially taken over the investigation into the murder of Chandranath Rath, a close aide of West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari. The move comes following a recommendation made by the state police.

In an official statement, the CBI said that a Special Investigation Team (SIT) will be constituted under the supervision of the Joint Director of the agency’s Kolkata Zone to investigate the case.

Meanwhile, the West Bengal Police are preparing to transfer the case diary and related documents to the central agency. A CBI team is also expected to visit the Madhyamgram police station and inspect the crime scene later in the day as part of the investigation process.
