Collegium Recommends Preeta Aravindan, Liz Mathew for Elevation to Kerala High Court

April 14, 2026 : The Supreme Court Collegium has recommended the elevation of advocates Preeta Aravindan and Liz Mathew as judges of the Kerala High Court, in a move aimed at strengthening the state’s judicial capacity.

The Collegium, led by Chief Justice of India Surya Kant along with senior Supreme Court judges, evaluated the candidates on parameters such as professional competence, integrity, and experience before finalising the recommendation. The decision reflects the Collegium’s continued focus on merit-based appointments while also promoting diversity within the higher judiciary.

Preeta Aravindan is recognised for her extensive practice in constitutional and civil law, while Liz Mathew has established a strong profile in service and administrative matters. Their induction is expected to bring added balance and expertise to the Kerala High Court bench.

The recommendations have been forwarded to the Centre for further processing. Upon approval, the appointments are likely to help address existing vacancies and ease the backlog of pending cases in the High Court.

The move also highlights the judiciary’s emphasis on broader representation and the inclusion of seasoned practitioners, contributing to a more effective and inclusive justice delivery system.
