Gujarat High Court Rejects Asaram Ashram Trust Appeals, Clears Way for Land Reclamation in Motera

April 17, 2026 : The Gujarat High Court on Saturday dismissed appeals filed by the Asaram Ashram Trust and declined to grant any interim relief, effectively allowing the state government to take back more than 45,000 square metres of land in Ahmedabad’s Motera area currently occupied by the Ashram.

A division bench upheld the earlier decision of the Ahmedabad District Collector ordering resumption of the land, pointing to serious breaches of the original allotment conditions. The court noted that the Trust had repeatedly violated legal requirements and found no basis to regularise the unauthorised constructions on the site.

The land in question is situated close to the Narendra Modi Stadium and the Sardar Patel Sports Complex. According to officials, the reclaimed area is likely to be utilised for infrastructure development tied to the 2030 Commonwealth Games and potential future Olympic bids.
