May 21, 2026 : The Supreme Court Collegium has approved the appointment of 19 persons as Judges of the Madras High Court following its meeting held on May 18, 2026. The recommendations include advocates and judicial officers proposed through multiple resolutions forwarded between November and December 2025.
According to the official statement released by the Collegium, the approved names include Dr. P. Murugan, M.D. Sumathi, S. Alli, C. Thirumagal Chandrasekar, Dharmalingam Lingeswaran, Karthikeyan Balathandayutham, Natarajan Ramesh, G.K. Muthukumaar, Ramakrishnan Rajesh Vivekananthan, Sankaranarayanan Raveekumar, Nagarajan Dilip Kumar, Ellappan Manoharan, Krishnaswamy Govindarajan, Rajnish Pathiyil, K. Appadurai alias Kandavel Appadurai, Ramasamy Anitha, Shanmugam Karthikeyan, Baluchamy Murugesan and N. Gunasekaran.
The recommendations were considered under separate proposals dated November 4, November 21, December 7 and December 10, 2025. The list comprises both practising advocates and members of the judicial service, reflecting the convention of balancing appointments from the Bar and the subordinate judiciary.
The appointments will take effect after approval by the Central Government and issuance of warrants of appointment by the President of India.
