Supreme Court Seeks Detailed Affidavits from Centre, NTA on NEET-UG Reform Implementation

July 24, 2026 : The Supreme Court on Friday directed the Union Government and the National Testing Agency (NTA) to file detailed affidavits outlining the progress made in implementing reforms introduced after the NEET-UG paper leak.

A Bench of Justice P. S. Narasimha and Justice Alok Aradhe observed that the affidavits should explain the concrete steps taken to institutionalise the reforms rather than relying on temporary or ad hoc measures. The Court emphasised that it would closely monitor the implementation process and periodically review the progress.

The Bench also sought the Centre’s response on the measures being taken to transition the examination system entirely to an online mode.

Appearing for the Union Government, Solicitor General Tushar Mehta submitted that the government is going “10 extra miles” to address the concerns of students and strengthen the examination process. He requested additional time to place a comprehensive status report before the Court.

Accepting the request, the Supreme Court listed the matter for further hearing on July 27, when it will consider the affidavits to be filed by the Centre and the NTA regarding the implementation of the proposed reforms.
