Law Notify : The Supreme Court of India on Wednesday directed the Union government, the Delhi government and other concerned stakeholders to place their respective action plans within four weeks on the long-term measures suggested by the Commission for Air Quality Management to address the worsening air quality in the Delhi-NCR region.
A three-judge bench comprising Chief Justice of India Surya Kant, Justice Joymalya Bagchi and Justice Vipul M Pancholi took note of a status report submitted by CAQM, which has proposed 15 long-term interventions and clearly identified the agencies responsible for implementing them.
The Court made it clear that the recommendations are not open to objection and must be acted upon. During an earlier hearing on December 17, the bench had described Delhi’s pollution problem as an “annual feature” and stressed the need for realistic and workable solutions to deal with the recurring crisis.
