Raipur : Hidayatullah National Law University will hold its Ninth Convocation on Sunday, 22 February 2026, marking a significant academic milestone for the institution. The ceremony will be attended by the Hon’ble Chief Justice of India, Justice Surya Kant, who will deliver the Convocation Address as the Chief Guest.
The event is scheduled from 2:00 p.m. to 4:45 p.m. at the Emerald Hall of Hotel Babylon Capital and will be held by invitation.
Degrees will be conferred by Justice Ramesh Sinha, Hon’ble Chief Justice of the High Court of Chhattisgarh and Chancellor of HNLU. This year, six scholars will receive the Doctor of Philosophy degree, eighty-eight students will be awarded the Master of Laws, and one hundred forty-eight graduates will receive the Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Laws (Honours) degree. The ceremony will take place in the presence of parents and guardians.
Among the Guests of Honour will be Shri Vishnu Deo Sai, Chief Minister of Chhattisgarh; Justice P. S. Narasimha, Judge of the Supreme Court of India and Member of HNLU’s Executive Council; and Justice Prashant Kumar Mishra, Judge of the Supreme Court of India. Several Judges of the High Court of Chhattisgarh, senior members of the Bar, Vice-Chancellors of universities, academicians, and senior government officials are also expected to attend.
A total of thirty-six Gold Medals will be presented to meritorious students. These include ten undergraduate and three postgraduate toppers. Among the key recognitions are the Chancellor’s Gold Medal, the University Gold Medal for the Best Outgoing Student, the Chhattisgarh State Bar Council Gold Medal, and a series of memorial gold medals instituted in honour of distinguished legal and academic personalities.
The Convocation programme will be preceded by the foundation stone laying ceremony for a new Auditorium Complex at the HNLU campus, estimated to cost ₹50 crore. The foundation stone will be laid by the Chief Justice of India. On the same occasion, the Chief Guest will inaugurate the University’s Research Hub and Spoke Block, comprising thirty dedicated research chambers and a Board Room, aimed at strengthening the institution’s research ecosystem.
Over the past year, HNLU has undertaken several institutional reforms and research initiatives. Under its Health Shield Programme, medical reimbursement for faculty and staff was increased from ₹9,000 to ₹30,000. The University also introduced a Staff Compassionate Fund Policy with a corpus of ₹1 crore to support employees facing medical or personal emergencies.
On the academic front, the University secured key research projects, including a study on Climate Change Legislation for the State of Chhattisgarh and a project funded by the Indian Council of Social Science Research focusing on the Abujh Maria community. In addition, the University received a grant of ₹3.35 crore from the Azim Premji Foundation for “Project Justice Connect,” an initiative aimed at strengthening access to justice and promoting pro bono legal education.
During the ceremony, the University will release the HNLU Journal of Law and Social Sciences (Volume IX, Issue I), the HNLU Student Law Journal (Volume II), and an edited volume titled “Constitution @ 75,” reflecting on seventy-five years of constitutional governance in India.
The Convocation ceremony will be live-streamed on the official YouTube channel of Hidayatullah National Law University, allowing alumni, well-wishers, and members of the legal community across the country to witness the proceedings.
