March 15, 2026 : A major step has been taken to strengthen public infrastructure in the Mungeli–Bilaspur region of Chhattisgarh. South Eastern Coalfields Limited (SECL) has approved 15 development projects worth approximately ₹10.93 crore aimed at improving essential public facilities.
These projects received approval following continuous efforts by Union Minister Tokhan Sahu, who had been advocating for infrastructure development in the area. After his initiatives, SECL cleared several proposals related to construction works and expansion of public amenities across different sectors.
The approved projects focus on education, healthcare, rural infrastructure, and community facilities. In Koylari, approval has been granted for the construction of a primary school building as well as a higher secondary school building. In addition, a boundary wall will be constructed at the government school campus in Kanteli.
The same campus will also see the development of modern educational facilities. These include a computer lab, smart classrooms, projectors and screens, a science laboratory, sound systems, furniture, and the development of a playground to enhance learning infrastructure.
To strengthen healthcare facilities, SECL has approved the construction of rest rooms for attendants of admitted patients at the district hospital. Two separate rest rooms have been planned with an allocation of ₹50 lakh each. However, the project is currently awaiting progress due to the lack of a suitable site.
Several projects aimed at promoting social and cultural activities in rural areas have also received approval. In Dindori village of the Lalpur area, a cultural stage will be constructed with an estimated cost of around ₹96.60 lakh. A cultural building has also been proposed at Madku Island as part of the same initiative.
Keeping farmers’ needs in mind, proposals for the construction of rest houses for farmers in the Setganga and Sargaon areas have also been approved. Meanwhile, at the Community Health Center in Lormi, the procurement of a semi-automatic biochemistry analyzer and a dry machine has been sanctioned, which is expected to improve the quality of healthcare services.
As part of public infrastructure development, around ₹1 crore has been approved for the installation of high mast lights at various locations. Additionally, proposals for the construction of sheds in certain areas are also under consideration.
According to official documents, some projects have already received approval orders and the first installment of funds has been released, with administrative procedures underway. Meanwhile, a few proposals are still under review due to committee approvals and documentation processes.
The projects worth ₹10.93 crore are being seen as an important initiative to expand basic infrastructure in the region. Once implemented, these works related to education, healthcare, and rural development are expected to provide direct benefits to local residents.
